With a 2-year minimum follow-up, nivolumab plus ipilimumab with two cycles of chemotherapy provided durable efficacy benefits over chemotherapy with a manageable safety profile and remains an efficacious first-line treatment of advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. In patients who discontinued all components of nivolumab plus ipilimumab with chemotherapy treatment due to TRAEs (n = 61) median OS was 27.5 months 56% of responders had an ongoing response ≥1 year after discontinuation. No new safety signals were observed onset of grade 3/4 TRAEs was mostly observed during the first two treatment cycles in the experimental arm. Improved efficacy outcomes in the experimental versus control arm were observed across most subgroups, including by programmed death-ligand 1 and histology. ORR was 38% versus 25%, respectively 34% versus 12% of all responses were ongoing at 2 years. Median OS was 15.8 versus 11.0 months 2-year OS rate was 38% versus 26%. With a median follow-up of 30.7 months, nivolumab plus ipilimumab with chemotherapy continued to prolong overall survival (OS) versus chemotherapy. Updated efficacy and safety outcomes are reported, along with progression-free survival (PFS) after next line of treatment (PFS2), treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) by treatment cycle, and efficacy outcomes in patients who discontinued all treatment components in the experimental arm due to TRAEs. Patients were randomized 1 : 1 to nivolumab 360 mg every 3 weeks plus ipilimumab 1 mg/kg every 6 weeks with two cycles of chemotherapy, or four cycles of chemotherapy. To further characterize survival benefit with first-line nivolumab plus ipilimumab with two cycles of chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone, we report updated data from the phase III CheckMate 9LA trial with a 2-year minimum follow-up.Īdult patients were treatment naïve, with stage IV/recurrent non-small-cell lung cancer, no known sensitizing EGFR/ALK alterations, and an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status ≤1.

If you want to learn more about what else was shown off last night, you can check out the King of Fighters 15 open beta announcement, the Death's Door PlayStation reveal, the new Bugsnax update, the leaked November PS Plus lineup or the reveal trailer for Deathverse: Let it Die. We will inform you about the release date as soon as it is decided.' Good, better it comes slowly and is the game we want it to be. As a result of inquiring about this to Neostream, 'In order to improve the development quality, we inevitably decided to postpone the release. There's still no launch date for the title, despite it being the closer for last night's weird State of Play. Little Devil Inside’s release date has been delayed again. "As such, the pace of the game is designed to try and touch the player’s emotions by giving enough time and space and allow them to 'take-in' the various atmosphere. "The game is not about leveling up the character as quickly as you can and speed running through all the content," said John Choi, at the link. You can learn more about the world map in the game over at the PlayStation Blog, where the game's head of production goes into more detail about how the world is going to impact you in the game. We get a brief look at crafting and enemy mob battling, as well as some insight into travelling companions and the Little Devil Inside world at large. The soft lighting and the way it works on oceans, arctic biomes and deserts is genuinely quite impressive. In April 2015, Little Devil Inside made its way into the gaming consciousness through the introduction of its Kickstarter to help fund the insurgent indie title. There are some lovely visuals at play, showing off what Unreal Engine can do on PlayStation 5 with some lovely tilt-shift effects, giving the whole thing a toybox kind-of feel. Little Devil Inside has been a project a long time in the making. The new video shows off some gameplay we get a look at world map traversal – where flocks of sheep can block your path, and NPCs can converse with you – and some intertiors, too. The newest trailer hasn't really made anything that much clearer, but at least we've got some more context for whatever the hell is going in in Neostream's peculiar third-person, 3D action-adventure, role-playing video game (yes, it's a mouthful). You may remember Little Devil Inside from its previous outing in another State of Play: the game was debuted at Sony's E3 2020 show with a mysterious trailer that didn't really give away too much of the game's actual premise. Look for styles that suit your needs to have the best period underwear experience. ✔️ Use: Period underwear is designed to absorb menstrual flow, so most styles aren't well suited for incontinence (except for a featured style from Knix). Opt for period underwear styles that are similar to the regular underwear you like. ✔️ Styles:Just like regular underwear, period underwear is available in different cuts like high-waisted, bikini, hipster and thongs. We recommend having styles with a few different absorbencies to suit different days of your period. ✔️ Absorbency: Period underwear is available in different absorbencies - some styles are meant to be worn without any other period products while others are intended as back-up protection. GH underwear pros found the key features to look for when shopping: With more and more period underwear styles available on the market, finding the right pair can be challenging. ✔️ Comfort and fit: In addition to all our Lab evaluations, every pair was sent to five testers of different sizes and menstrual flows to receive feedback on leaks, comfort, fit, absorbency and more. As no one just sits still when on their period, this test determines if the period underwear will be absorbent at different angles too. After a pair was washed two times, we evaluated runoff, which refers to how much cough syrup will roll off the underwear when it’s tilted to a 45 degree angle. ✔️ Wash and wearability: Our pros also evaluated shrinkage after one and five washes. This test was completed when each pair was brand new and again after one and five washes. to see if the period underwear will keep you dry!). Once completely absorbed, we placed filter paper on top then added a ten-pound weight before reevaluating the filter paper to see how well the period underwear held onto the fluid (i.e. To measure absorbency speed, we applied cough syrup to the underwear with a syringe and timed how long it took for it all to completely absorb into the pad. ✔️ Absorbency speed: We used cough syrup to mimic the viscosity of menstrual flow just as manufacturers do to test pads and tampons. Then we sent each style home with consumer testers to evaluate comfort and style. In the Lab, we evaluated absorbency speed, shrinkage and runoff to ensure that each product we recommend will perform. This is a cliché, of course, but you will write more when you tell yourself that no day must pass without writing. These habits have worked for me and I want my students to use them to cultivate the practice of writing.ġ. My list isn’t in any way a presumption of expertise and is offered only as evidence of experience. I have also prepared my own list of rules for my students. Why? “It’s not possible to write 52 bad short stories in a row.” On the first day of my writing class this year, I handed out xeroxed sheets of rules by Ray Bradbury, not least because he offers the valuable advice that one should write a short story each week for a whole year. But I offer my own students rules all the time. Of course, rules can never be a substitute for what a writer can learn, should learn, simply by sitting down and writing. A beginner should take them daily, like a dose of much-needed vitamins. In their simplicity and directness, I do not think the above rules can be improved upon. You may go beyond these rules after you have thoroughly understood and mastered them. It may even be getting rid of the bad language habits you picked up at the university. It may be awkward, but it’s training you in the use of language. A sentence should not have more than 10 or 12 words.Įvery day, for six months at least, practice writing in this way. Naipaul’s Rules for Beginners”:ĭo not write long sentences. I followed the rules diligently for at least a year, and my book Bombay-London-New York was a product of the writing I did during that period. Like a traveler in a new place, I asked questions, took notes, and began to arrange things in a narrative. I was discovering language as if it were a new country. The rules were a wonderful antidote to my practice of using academic jargon, and they made me conscious of my own writing habits. In the weeks that followed, I began writing a regular literary column for Tehelka, and, in those pieces, I tried to work by Naipaul’s rules. A few days later I left India and the sheet traveled with me, folded in the pages of a book that I was reading. I was told that I could take the sheet if I wanted. He had fussed over their formulation, corrected them, and then faxed back the corrections. It was explained to me that Naipaul was asked by the Tehelka reporters if he could give them some basic suggestions for improving their language. Naipaul’s Rules for Beginners.” These were rules for writing. And high above someone’s computer was a sheet of paper that said “V. There was a pen-and-ink portrait of Naipaul on the wall because he was one of the trustees. Later, when we were done, I was taken around for a tour of the place. I was visiting my parents in India at that time it was winter, and I went to the Tehelka office to talk to the editors. About a decade ago, soon after I had received tenure, Tehelka asked me to come aboard as a writer. Almost writing ‘the cat sat on the mat.’ I almost began like that.”Īnd I did that too, almost. I abandoned everything and began to write like a child at school. In the beginning I had to forget everything I had written by the age of 22. The sentence I had quoted had mattered to me, yes, and so had the book, but what had really helped was Naipaul’s telling an interviewer that in an effort to write clearly he had turned himself into a beginner: “It took a lot of work to do it. Every time I start to write, I am reminded of Naipaul’s book.īut that wasn’t the whole truth, neither about Naipaul, nor about beginnings. The ambition and the anxiety of the beginner is there at the beginning of each book. It has lasted through the twenty years of my writing life. Its very first sentence established in my mind the idea of writing as an opening in time or a beginning: that sentence conveyed to me, with its movement and rhythm, a history of repeated striving, and of things coming together, at last, in the achievement of the printed word: “It is now nearly thirty years since, in a bbc room in London, on an old bbc typewriter, and on smooth, ‘non-rustle’ bbc script paper, I wrote the first sentence of my first publishable book.” This first sentence-about a first sentence-created an echo in my head. This was one of the first literary autobiographies that I read. The library then purchased a copy, which was duly displayed in one of its rooms, with a statement I had written about the book: When I was promoted to the rank of professor, the library at the university where I was then employed asked me to send them the name of a book that had been useful to me in my career. A mix of memoir, reportage, and criticism, these essays explore how Kumar, a Professor of English at Vassar College, practices being a ‘writer in the world.’ The following is from Amitava Kumar’s essay collection Lunch with a Bigot. Unlike regular lenses, tilt-shift lenses offer photographers two unique capabilities: tilt and shift. Difference Between Regular and Tilt-Shift Lenses Some tilt-shift lenses also feature rotation capabilities, providing further creative possibilities. Tilt-shift lenses come in various focal lengths, with wider ones like the Canon TS-E 17mm suited for architecture and interiors, while longer focal lengths like the Nikon PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm better for product photography and portraiture. For instance, they can correct perspective distortion in building photos, achieve a miniature effect by manipulating focus, or ensure sharp focus across a vast landscape. Tilt-shift lenses excel in many applications, from architectural photography to landscape and product photography, where perspective control and depth of field adjustments are vital. As technology advanced, brands like Canon and Nikon developed sophisticated versions of these lenses, like the Canon TS-E series and Nikon PC-E, widening their reach and appeal to photographers. With time, they found uses in various genres of photography due to their unique ability to manipulate the plane of focus. The tilt-shift lens originated as a tool for architectural photography in the mid-20th century to correct converging verticals in building photos. They offer otherwise impossible camera angles and a wider range of selective focus, thereby expanding the horizons of creative photography. With the tilt and shift features, these lenses allow photographers to alter perspective and focus in ways a typical lens can’t. Definition of a Tilt-Shift LensĪ tilt-shift lens, also referred to as a perspective control lens, is a specialized type of camera lens known for its unique ability to manipulate the orientation of the lens plane relative to the image sensor. As with any tool, practice and understanding are key to unlocking the full potential of any tilt-shift lens. This makes tilt-shift lenses versatile assets in diverse photographic genres. These features enable photographers to manipulate focus, rectify distortion, and evoke unique visual effects, adding new dimensions to creative photography. With their extensive applications across various photography genres, they are powerful tools for photographers who understand their intricacies. Health and regulatory authorities have recently highlighted the risk of consumption among pregnant and lactating women, children, adolescents, young adults, and people with underlying heart and other health conditions. Of particular concern is the rate of caffeine intake among populations potentially vulnerable to its negative effects. This recent increase in caffeine-containing food products, as well as changes in patterns of consumption of the more traditional sources of caffeine, has increased scrutiny by health authorities and regulatory bodies of the overall consumption of caffeine and its potential cumulative effects on behavior and physiology. Historically, this addition was limited to soda-type beverages, but over the past decade, caffeine has been added to a diverse variety of foods and non-food items to promote arousal, alertness, energy, and elevated mood ( 3– 5). Synthetic caffeine is also added to products to enhance their stimulant properties. Natural sources of dietary caffeine include coffee, tea, and chocolate. It occurs naturally in the leaves and seeds of many plants and has a taste bitter enough to deter pests ( 2). We also identified several gaps in the literature on which we based recommendations for the future of caffeine research.Ĭaffeine is the most widely consumed psychoactive drug in the world ( 1) and one of the most comprehensively studied ingredients in the food supply. We report that, for healthy adults, caffeine consumption is relatively safe, but that for some vulnerable populations, caffeine consumption could be harmful, including impairments in cardiovascular function, sleep, and substance use. Here, we review the research into the safety and safe doses of ingested caffeine in healthy and in vulnerable populations. Of particular concern is the rate of caffeine intake among populations potentially vulnerable to the negative effects of caffeine consumption: pregnant and lactating women, children and adolescents, young adults, and people with underlying heart or other health conditions, such as mental illness. Over the past decade, the introduction of new caffeine-containing food products, as well as changes in consumption patterns of the more traditional sources of caffeine, has increased scrutiny by health authorities and regulatory bodies about the overall consumption of caffeine and its potential cumulative effects on behavior and physiology. Synthetic caffeine is also added to products to promote arousal, alertness, energy, and elevated mood. Natural sources of caffeine include coffee, tea, and chocolate. However, there is no evidence that caffeine contributes to any increase in blood pressure in these patients.įazio is correct in drawing attention to the combined use of caffeine-containing over-the-counter medications with the ingestion of caffeine in the form of beverages.Caffeine is the most widely consumed psychoactive drug in the world. Furthermore, oral contraceptive pills are generally prescribed to young, healthy women, and blood pressure is routinely followed up because oral contraceptives by themselves can cause hypertension. However, the increase in plasma caffeine levels would probably not be sufficient to warrant special concern regarding possible adverse cardiovascular effects. The elimination half-life of caffeine may be prolonged if administered together with cimetidine or an oral contraceptive medication. In Reply.-Fazio's letter raises some interesting questions regarding possible drug interactions with caffeine and other substances. Moisture is a common enemy of electronics, causing corrosion and malfunction. One of its prominent uses is in the protection of electronic devices and equipment, and especially when desiccators or tank vent dryers are used. Indicating silica gel finds its application in various industries. The cobalt chloride is a deep-blue color when dry and transitions from blue to pink as the desiccant saturates.īlue silica gel can be used in many of the same applications as orange silica gel however, due to the addition of the moisture indicator (cobalt chloride), blue silica gel should not be used in direct contact with products intended for consumption, such as food or pharmaceuticals. Two types of indicating silica gel: Orange and blueīlue Indicating Silica Gel - MIL-D-3716 Type IV Grade H BLUE INDICATING SILICA GELīlue indicating silica gel is a bead or granule that has been washed with a concentration of cobalt chloride (a heavy metal salt). This visible change serves as an effective moisture detection mechanism, providing a clear visual indication of when the silica gel needs to be replaced or recharged.Ĭonversely, non-indicating desiccant forms do not provide a way to determine saturation level, resulting in added difficulty when evaluating the amount of moisture adsorbed by the desiccant. These indicators, typically either cobalt chloride or methyl violet, change color as the silica gel saturates with moisture. Unlike regular silica gel (known as bulk, or non-indicating silica gel), indicating silica gel is enhanced with color-changing indicators. Its primary role is to adsorb moisture, preventing it from damaging the surrounding environment or products.įor more information about desiccants, AGM has you covered! Indicating Silica Gel Desiccant: What Makes It Different? Silica gel is available in different types and sizes, making it a versatile desiccant capable of application across a wide range of industries. Silica gel consists of silicon dioxide and is shaped as small, porous beads. Silica gel is a desiccant known for its great moisture-adsorbing capabilities. That's where indicating silica gel comes into play. Whether it's electronic devices, foods, pharmaceuticals, or sensitive materials like artwork and optics assemblies, excess moisture can lead to damage and deterioration. Moisture control is a critical factor in preserving the quality and longevity of various products. Track 4: 160kbps Does Spotify or Tidal Sound Better for Rap Music Track 4: 320kbps Does Spotify or Tidal Sound Better for Rock Music Does Spotify or Tidal Sound Better for Pop Music We’ll master it for you and send you a free mastered sample to review. If you have a track that you’d like to hear mastered, send it to us here: One important thing to note is that for the pop, rock, and rap tracks, it was just about impossible to find a Master Quality version on Tidal that is still public domain, so these have been recorded in as 96kHz 24-bit files via analog equipment using a Tidal Hi-fi quality 44.1kHz 16-bit file. We'd recommend that you use headphones for this test. Be sure to use some headphones and your best playback system when doing these tests to get the best results. To make things more interesting we’ll make this a blind test so that each file isn’t identified until we’ve listened to each one of them. Here are the tracks that we'll listen to from Spotify. The files played from Spotify will be 320kbps, 160kbps, and 24kbps. The files played from Tidal will be 44.1kHz 16-bit. We’ll listen to Pop, Rock, and Rap tracks to determine which streaming service offers better quality. To understand this, we’ll need to listen to various genres using the settings we just described. Spotify's quality ranges from 24kbps to 320kbps.īut understanding these settings from a technical standpoint doesn’t help us understand which service sounds better. The quality of these AAC files ranges from a very low 24kbps to 320kbps. On the other hand, Spotify now uses an AAC lossy format (replacing the Ogg Vorbis format previously used). Tidal's streaming offers lossless file types than can support up to 384kHz, 24-bit. It should be noted that their master quality can go up to a 384kHz sampling rate, which is pretty impressive. Their hi-fi setting is a lossless 44.1, 16-bit file, whereas their Master setting is typically 96kHz, 24-bit. Tidal provides both lossy formats at lower quality settings and lossless formats at higher settings. Since Tidal was released, people have wondered if it truly sounds better than Spotify. Spotify or Tidal: Which Streaming Service Sounds the Best?Īlthough we can’t say one objectively sounds better, one service provides files with less aliasing, encoding distortion, and with a fuller frequency spectrum. If you intend to use lower quality formats to reduce data usage then Spotify may be better the better option. This mistake has now been rectified.Although which service sounds better may be subjective to some, Tidal provides higher quality masters using lossless files, whereas Spotify streams music using an AAC lossy format. Whether Spotify will dominate the 'HD listening' streaming market as it has done with regular streaming will largely depend on how much it decides to charge for the privilege – and if it can undercut the competition, its easy-to-navigate interface, excellent playlist curation, and wealth of songs could cement its place as the world's most popular streaming service for years to come.Įditor's note: this story previously stated that Spotify HiFI would offer Hi-Res Audio. It puts even more space between Apple Music and the rest of the competition, many of whom won't have this higher-quality tier to subscribe to. Spotify's popularity could well mean the difference in sound quality isn't enough to jump ship. The announcement could seriously worry the likes of Tidal and Amazon Music Unlimited, even though it doesn't quite hit the quality levels of Hi-Res, higher bit-rate audio those services offer. Up until now, Spotify audio was limited at 320kbps, unlike CDs, which max out at 1,411kbps – and the upgrade should offer far higher levels of detail and clarity for those with discerning ears. Spotify says that "high quality music streaming is consistently one of the most requested new features by our users", and it's little wonder when you consider how many other streaming services have already offered this for years. In an effort to undercut the competition, Spotify could price its HiFi streaming tier at around $12.99 / £12.99 / AU$16 per month, compared to Amazon's $14.99 / £14.99 and Tidal's $19.99 / £19.99 / AU$23.99 Hi-Res streaming tiers. Pricing is also yet to be announced, but as an optional add-on for Premium users, it probably won't be free.Īside from its free basic streaming tier that comes with adverts, Spotify Premium is the cheapest tier available, costing $9.99 / £9.99 / AU$11.99 per month. |
